Thanks Marion,
That was exactly what I was wondering about. I should have been more careful and referred to it as "Primitave Camping". I agree with most and would rather not see public camping at Quartz. (Please leave the RV's and trailers at home!) In the 80's and early 90's there never seemed to be any problem with the climbers who camped there "trashing " the place. The only litter I seem to recall was the TP scattered around in the area south of the parking lot. The addition of the toilet has eliminated that. A few scattered primitive sites would do nothing to damage the "Quartz Experience". Whatever that is. Seems to me that a few "climbers campsites to visit in the evening" was a big part of what made climbing on a weekend there so much fun.
Anyway, thanks again for the consise and mature reply.

: Most everyone was in agreement when we purchased Quartz that allowing open public camping would destroy the character of the place. There will probably never be a time when you can just pull up and throw a bag down in the woods.
: However, we did have discussions with the Park about possibly allowing regulated primitive camping at some point in the future. The idea was that (1) there would be a limited number of primitive camping permits available for Quartz, (2) those would be obtained through the Park Office for a small fee, (3) there would be designated and dispersed primitive camping sites a good distance from the parking lot, and (4) there would be no campfires allowed (stoves would be permitted).
: We're planning on having furhter discussions with the Park in the near future concerning this issue.
